JASWM Working with Japanese Seminar (3/23/11)

February 17th, 2011 · No Comments · Events

Back by popular demand, the Japan-America Society of West Michigan is offering an all-day workshop about understanding Japanese culture in the workplace and the different work styles between Americans and Japanese.  The workshop, which includes lunch, is hands-on and interactive, giving you ready access to acquired skills the very next day.  Often hard-to-understand topics like the following will be addressed:

  • Why are Japanese people vague?
  • Is it wrong for Americans to expect feedback?
  • Why do Japanese people avoid risk?
  • What is the decision-making process in Japanese companies?
  • What are the techniques for effective meetings with Japanese coworkers or customers?
  • What etiquette is necessary to avoid being rude to Japanese people?
  • What should I be aware of when visiting Japanese businesses or customers in Japan?
  • What is it about Americans that Japanese find difficult to understand or deal with?

Many times these questions and more go unanswered, leaving no opportunity for further understanding or improvement in business/workplace relationships.  This seminar sheds light on these subjects and offers real, tested strategies for making these intercultural relationships work to your advantage whether you are an employee, co-worker, supplier or manager of Japanese people.

What some attendees of the seminar have said:

One of the very best seminars I have taken on cross-cultural communications and understanding.

Looking back at my own experience, I began to see where and why I have made mistakes in the past.  This was an excellent opportunity.

I wish I had taken this seminar about 5 years ago.
