Japanese Confectionary Demo (5/13 & 5/16/10)

One of the best confectionery masters in Japan, Mr. Shoji Nishizawa, who comes from Shiga, Japan, will demonstrate confectionery making. Participants will learn how confectionery is made and how it is traditionally enjoyed as they sample these treats and drink authentic Japanese tea.

The event will be free of charge and held twice–on May 13th in East Lansing and on May 16th in Novi. The East Lansing demonstration on Thursday the 13th will be held from 3:00PM to 4:30PM at the Kellogg Center on the Michigan State University campus. The Novi demonstration on Sunday the 16th will be held from 11:00AM to 1:00PM at the Novi Civic Center on Sunday, May 16th, 2010.

Shiga Sister-State Fair in Novi (10/4/09)

We hope that everyone has had a great summer!

To kick off the fall Shiga Prefecture, Michigan’s Sister State since 1968, is organizing an event to be held on October 4th at the Novi Civic Center.

From 1:00PM to 4:00PM there will be pottery demonstrations by a Shiga-Raki master, Shiga products available for purchase, as well as food and drinks from the region. Don’t miss the first ever Shiga Fair!

Back to business: the Novi Japan Festival is being held on Sunday, October 5th at the Novi Civic Center. This is an annual event sponsored by the JBSD (Japan Business Society of Detroit), the JSD Women’s Club, The Japan-America Society of Greater Detroit & Windsor, the Consulate General of Japan in Detroit, and the JBSD Youth Committee.

Come and join in on the fun from 1:00PM to 4:00PM. There will be a variety of events and presentations of traditional Japanese culture. Expect food, drinks, dancing, tea ceremonies, and more! A great family event.

MJPA Event at Bi Bim Bab, Novi (3/30/08)

Our next event is scheduled for Sunday, March 30 and will be held at Bi Bim Bab Korean restaurant in Novi. We will begin at 5:00PM but you may arrive at anytime. If you haven’t had a chance to dine here I’d recommend using this chance to try it out. If you have dined there before you know how good it is and we’ll expect you to be there! Food will be ordered on an individual basis.

Bowling Event Recap

Thanks to everyone who was able to make it out last night—we had a great time bowling, eating, drinking, karaoke’ing, etc. You can view all of the pictures on our gallery page.

Special shout-out goes to our friend Miho who soundly trounced all of us with her superior bowling skills.
